HeNN Australia organised a Fundraising Event in Sydney
Sydney – On 1 August, Help Nepal Network Australia organised a fundraising dinner in Sydney to support the rebuilding of Shree Khapar Masta Basic School in Kalikot, Nepal. The school is in extremely poor condition, and the event aimed to raise $10,000 for its reconstruction.
Federal Member for Barton, Ms Ash Ambihaipahar, attended as the chief guest, with Cllr Sukirti Bhatta, Councillor from Burwood Council, as the special guest. Arun Singh Basnet, President of HeNN Australia, and Rabi Manandhar, a senior member of the HeNN team, travelled from Nepal to participate in the program.
The event brought together respected community leaders Mr Narayan Pradhan and Ms Indra Ban, along with HeNN Australia senior executive members and coordinators Harsha Gautam, Keshab Baniya, Tara Shrestha, and Laxman Sharma. Interstate representatives also joined the event, including Dr Krishna Hamal from Canberra and Santoshi Gautam, the current coordinator of HeNN Australia from Adelaide.
Speakers included chief guest, Ms Ash Ambihaipahar, Cllr Sukirti Bhatta, and Arun Singh Basnet. Ms Ash emphasised the vital role migrant communities play in preserving cultural identity, strengthening social cohesion, and enriching Australia’s multicultural society. Cr Sukirti encouraged Nepalese communities to actively participate in local government initiatives that promote cultural activities and community engagement.
Mr Arun Singh Basnet highlighted HeNN’s long‑standing work and the tangible benefits it has delivered to Nepal’s most underprivileged communities. He also expressed concern about the increasing difficulty of raising funds for essential projects. Tara Shrestha, a senior executive member of HeNN Australia, presented a check of one hundred thousand rupees to Arun Singh Basnet, the president of Help Nepal Network. The donation will go towards the reconstruction of the school in Kalikot.
Tara Shrestha highlighted the challenges arising from generational change and how to inspire them to participate in philanthropic work.
Dila Kharel, HeNN Global Coordinator, spoke about the importance of practical philanthropy and encouraged the community to cultivate a culture of giving contributing in whatever capacity one can.
A documentary showcasing HeNN’s work in health, education, and natural disaster relief was screened during the program, offering attendees a clear understanding of the organisation’s long‑standing impact in Nepalese society.
Help Nepal Network Australia reaffirmed its commitment to expanding the “One Dollar a Month” campaign and strengthening sustainable funding pathways for its programmes. It remains committed to continuing its mission of serving Nepal’s poorest and most vulnerable communities.
